What else offers an energy boost besides energy drinks?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

Like everyone, I need a little boost in the morning to get going. However, I’ve recently noticed that drinking energy drinks make me really jittery and sped up my heart rate. I’m not really a coffee person but if you guys known of anything that I can drink that will give me a boost but not give me the jitters, please tell me.

Eat foods that are complex carbohydrates (e.g. — they have fiber in them) or that also have protein in them. Pears are a good example; so is cantaloupe. Almonds and peanut butter are great, too. By eating something that isn’t a simple sugar, sugar will go into your blood gradually, giving you a continuous flow of energy, rather than making you jittery and then causing you to "crash." Also eat foods that are rich in vitamins and iron. Check out the link below for some foods that can give you an energy boost.

Any tips for boosting energy?

August 24th, 2010 . by admin

Besides exercise, any tips appreciated.

I take a one-a-day vitamin that is supposed to be geared towards giving me more energy and I’d say it def helps! I have been more alert, awake, and able to survive a 12 hour work day.

You can also exercise in the MORNING. Right after you get up, exercising will get your blood pumping. Exercising at night will give you this high energy – right before bed. Stupid.

Don’t take naps… Get lots of sleep at one time rather than getting a nights sleep of only 6 hrs and taking a 2 hr nap will confuse your body. Stay to a strict sleeping sced. and your body will get used to it.

Healing Quest: Antioxidants for Cellular Health

August 6th, 2010 . by admin

The trillions of cells in our bodies produce the energy that keeps us alive. As they process food and oxygen to create energy, they also release dangerous molecules called free radicals or oxidants. These oxidants can do a lot of damage. What happens inside our bodies is similar to what happens to an apple when it is cut open and exposed to oxygen: it turns brown because oxygen is corrosive. Our bodies have a defense mechanism in the form of antioxidant enzymes, which neutralize free radicals. This defense mechanism works well until our 20’s, but as we get older our cells produce more free radicals than our defenses can neutralize. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals has been linked to over 200 illnesses, so this is a major medical concern. Some experts predict that people will soon monitor their oxidative stress as routinely as they are now monitor cholesterol.

Scientists have been researching ways to boost our natural antioxidant enzymes. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables helps, but many experts say it’s not enough. This segment discusses a nutritional supplement called Protandim, which has been shown to be very effective in maintaining cellular health. Protandim contains 5 herbs that have been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries. After 3 months of taking this supplement, a 78 year old man was tested and his cellular health was shown to be similar to that of a 20 year old.

Spiritually speaking, are there foods that naturally boost energy?

July 28th, 2010 . by admin

This has been a very busy week. I’ve just been going and going and wound up going the past 2 days with essentially no sleep. I know this wasn’t wise, but now I’m dealing with the effects.

I have 5 hours left in the workday but I’m having a somewhat hard time staying awake. I do not like coffee, energy drinks, or anything synthetic that provides temporary energy. I’m going to lunch soon and was wondering if there are any foods that naturally boost energy?

Crack cocaine works! No just joking, seriously you are going to have to fall asleep sometime. It sounds like sleep deprivation is your problem and you should either see a doctor to get a script for sleeping pills.

As far as energy to get you through the day I would opt for something with complex carbohydrates such as potatoes or oatmeal.
