What else offers an energy boost besides energy drinks?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

Like everyone, I need a little boost in the morning to get going. However, I’ve recently noticed that drinking energy drinks make me really jittery and sped up my heart rate. I’m not really a coffee person but if you guys known of anything that I can drink that will give me a boost but not give me the jitters, please tell me.

Eat foods that are complex carbohydrates (e.g. — they have fiber in them) or that also have protein in them. Pears are a good example; so is cantaloupe. Almonds and peanut butter are great, too. By eating something that isn’t a simple sugar, sugar will go into your blood gradually, giving you a continuous flow of energy, rather than making you jittery and then causing you to "crash." Also eat foods that are rich in vitamins and iron. Check out the link below for some foods that can give you an energy boost.

Have you tried that new fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue med?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

Lyrica( spelling may be wrong) is the first fibromyalgia drug approved by the government. It sure seems to help the pain. Since Chronic Fatigue and Fibromaylgia are considered to be the same, try it for chronic fatigue too. Have you tried it and did it work for you?

Lyrica is the brand name of pregabalin. It was designed as a more potent successor to gabapentin (Neurontin). There is some understanding of what the drug does in the body, but it is not clearly understood how it works. However, it has been found to be very effective in many disorders, and is approved for use in fibromyalgia, seizures, diabetic neuropathy and anxiety/panic disorders. However, many people have found it successful as treatment for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (also known as RSD) and other neurologically mediated pain syndromes.

I have prescribed this medication for patients, and have taken the medication myself, and find few complaints of side effects, good response in most patients, and the only issue I have had is patient compliance with the usual three times per day dosing schedule.

Overall, it is a good medication, and a great help to those patients with nerve related pain.

EDIT: Maris has staed that CFS and Fibromyalgia are not the same, and speaking specifically, she is correct. However, there is frequently, a significant overlap of patients with these syndromes, both have no known cause, and the treatments for both, until recently have been largely symptomatic. In persons who report multiple syndromes with unknown causes, it is assumed that the probable cause is related. Thus persons with both CFS and FMS probably have a root cause with multiple symptoms. The more symptomatic a person becomes, the less likely any therapies will be effective. In those persons with multiple overlapping pain syndromes, while antiepileptic drugs can provide a 50% relief of symptoms it is often the expectation of the patient of complete relief that makes them find the medication useless. Also, frequently, these same patients do not reach the optimal dose of 150 mg three times a day, as they notice no benefit at the starting doses and stop the medication early.

Most practitioners find that patients with significant overlapping pain syndromes, while needing medication support for the symptomatic relief, find the greatest benefit from cognitive-behavioral therapies and counseling about reasonable expectations and lifestyle changes.

I wish you the best with your condition. Give the medication three full months, any less will not show you the full benefit.

Is there a medical explanation for tiredness of a male when he gets a female pregnant?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

Why do some men get very tired and sleepy when they get a female pregnant even before they know she is pregnant?

How is this possible?

It’s commonly refered to as "sympathy pains" but in most cases it’s just the man’s way of getting some attention because he can’t handle his wife/partner getting all the attention while she is pregnant.

Why do my eyes always feel tired?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

What can cause your eyes to always feel tired? I got new glasses not too long ago and my focus is perfect. For some reason my eyes still glaze over throughout the day even if I’m not tired. What can cause this?

Some common causes -

Nutritional deficiencies
Wrong prescription for glasses
Dry eyes
Glaucoma
Accomodation spasm

Why am I always SUPER TIRED around 7pm? How do I stay awake long enough to study for finals?

September 2nd, 2010 . by admin

I usually wake up at four in the morning,
but I always get at least seven hours of sleep.
It’s just that, like 2 hours after I get home from school,
I’m always unbearibly tired and I never have the energy to study.
I mean I try, but nothing sticks because I can’t concentrate.
But now I have finals to study for, and those are really important.
I just can’t bring myself to stay awake.

Why is that?

My tired time is between 3 and 5 pm. It’ll take some effort to work out the details to make it work for you, but I find that a 15-20 minute "power nap" helps refresh me to keep going. It may not work for you, but it’s worth a try.

Any tips for boosting energy?

August 24th, 2010 . by admin

Besides exercise, any tips appreciated.

I take a one-a-day vitamin that is supposed to be geared towards giving me more energy and I’d say it def helps! I have been more alert, awake, and able to survive a 12 hour work day.

You can also exercise in the MORNING. Right after you get up, exercising will get your blood pumping. Exercising at night will give you this high energy – right before bed. Stupid.

Don’t take naps… Get lots of sleep at one time rather than getting a nights sleep of only 6 hrs and taking a 2 hr nap will confuse your body. Stay to a strict sleeping sced. and your body will get used to it.

How to deal with chronic fatigue?

August 24th, 2010 . by admin

Has anyone found ways to manage their chronic fatigue? I can’t seem to get anything done anymore. I’ve tried drinking lots of caffeine to give me a "boost" but I get used to it & it doesn’t help. Oh, and please no lectures on living better, I ride my bike or walk my dogs daily for 5 miles, I eat plenty of vegies and take suppliments.

Has anyone found a schedule they can live with? I try VERY hard not to nap thru the day, but found if I keep that up for a few days I crash the next day or two & sleep all day.

It is soooo frustrating, am tired of either sleeping my life away or too tired to do anything but walk the dogs. Any ideas on how you cope? Thanks!

I was diagnosed with CFS 12 years ago. Honestly, the only thing that has remotely helped was eating a gluten-free diet. (Which, of course, I didn’t find out about until I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy). I’ve also heard going dairy-free helps too.

Get a basic blood panel for allergies the next time you go to the doctor. Sometimes CFS is diagnosed when there’s really a food allergy.

In the winter I also use a tanning bed, for about 10 minutes every week. It’s not exactly the healthiest thing in the world, but it does help.

And best luck, because feeling that tired all the time totally sucks.
